Nobuooo

May 6th, 2008 Posted in Music

Nobuooo is a social news website that centers on the topic of videogame music. It is part of the Zooov network, created by software designer Waleed Abdulla. My first exposure to Zooov dates back to January, when I became aware of the portal devoted to futurist technologies, called On Singularity. Having the chance to meet Waleed in person, my sense was that he was both a skilled designer and an insightful thinker on the subject of accelerating technological change.

I’ve enjoyed being a witness to On Singularity’s “strong take-off” in popularity among the futurist crowd, and post regularly. My hope is that in time Nobuooo will be seen as a significant Zooov community as well. The website might also be viewed as an early attempt to bridge my two prevailing interests of futurism and videogames, seeing as Nobuooo and On Singularity are hosted under the same umbrella of the Zooov network. While there are sites that write on the subject of videogame music and message boards that organize the views of the community, there have been few successful attempts to provide journalism while reflecting consensus.

Whether Nobuooo in its maturity will serve such a purpose has yet to be seen, but the structural framework has some positive qualities. At the moment the website is eking out a modest but undeniable existence. I try to post at least ten items a week, and as one can tell from the contributors page, there is also significant activity being volunteered by several energetic devotees of videogame music reportage, most noticeably Kaleb Grace of VG Frequency, Patrick Gann of RPGFan, Jeremie of Squaremusic, and Anthony of Game Music 4 All.

Nobuooo can be found at Nobuooo.com.
